The Importance of Movement in Preventing Joint Degeneration-The Hand Joints

At Naturally Well Chiropractic, we emphasize the critical role of movement in maintaining joint health. Joints rely on motion to nourish their cartilage, delivering vital nutrients and removing waste. Scientific studies have consistently shown that regular, controlled movement can help reduce stiffness, improve mobility, and even prevent degenerative conditions like osteoarthritis.
Yesterday, a patient asked about exercises to prevent hand degeneration, so I created two videos to guide her through the process. One focuses on Controlled Articular Rotations (CARs), which promote joint health by actively moving the joints through their full range of motion. This stimulates mechanoreceptors, sensors in your joints that retrain the nervous system, helping maintain healthy movement patterns and reducing stiffness.
The second video targets strengthening the intrinsic muscles of the hand, which are essential for everyday function. The hands, being such critical tools in daily life, are particularly susceptible to degeneration. However, regular, targeted exercises can help prevent restrictions and promote longevity.
I hope these resources support your journey toward better joint health. At Naturally Well Chiropractic, we see many patients with degeneration, but it’s never too late to begin preventative care.
