From Joondalup to Today: Dr. Luke’s Journey in Sports Chiropractic

Sports have always been a part of my life, and being a chiropractor for athletes has given me some of the most rewarding experiences in my career. I often think back to my days in Joondalup when I served as the sports chiropractor for the Joondalup Brothers Rugby Club. Those were intense, exciting, and unforgettable times, filled with hard work, camaraderie, and the sweet taste of victory.

Memories of the 2008 Premiership

In 2008, the Joondalup Brothers Rugby Club clinched a premiership, and I was proud to be part of the team behind the team. It wasn’t just about the players on the field—it was about the countless hours of preparation and dedication from everyone involved, including the volunteers, coaches, and support staff.

As the team chiropractor, my role was to ensure the boys were in peak physical condition. Before every game, I was busy taping ankles, stabilizing shoulders, and providing last-minute adjustments. Concussions, neck injuries, and shoulder issues were common on the field, and I had to be ready to respond at a moment’s notice. Each injury was a challenge, requiring not just skill but also quick thinking and teamwork.

Winning that premiership was a testament to everyone’s effort and determination, and it’s a memory I’ll always cherish. It wasn’t just about lifting a trophy—it was about being part of something bigger, a community that came together to achieve greatness.

Continuing to Support Athletes

Those years in Joondalup ignited a passion for working with athletes that I carry with me to this day. Whether it’s a weekend warrior, a young athlete, or a seasoned professional, I love helping people reach their full potential. My practice has evolved since those days, and one of the key tools I now use is Functional Range Conditioning (FRC).

What is Functional Range Conditioning (FRC)?

FRC is a mobility training system designed to improve joint health, strength, and flexibility. It’s not just about stretching—it’s about creating long-lasting, usable range of motion through controlled, deliberate movements. The idea is to make your body stronger and more resilient, so it can handle the demands of sport and life.

For athletes, FRC can be a game-changer. It helps:

Prevent injuries by improving joint function and stability.

Enhance performance by increasing strength and mobility in key areas.

Speed up recovery after injuries by targeting weak links and building robust, adaptable joints.

Whether it’s a rugby player recovering from a shoulder tear or a climber wanting to improve their grip strength, FRC provides a personalized approach to mobility and resilience.

Combining Chiropractic and FRC for Optimal Results

As a chiropractor and FRC practitioner, I integrate these two approaches to offer comprehensive care for my patients. Chiropractic adjustments restore alignment and improve nervous system function, while FRC addresses the underlying mobility and strength issues that can lead to injury. Together, they create a powerful combination for keeping athletes on the field and performing at their best.

Looking Ahead

Reflecting on my journey from those unforgettable days in Joondalup to today, I feel incredibly grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to make a difference in athletes’ lives. The premiership win in 2008 was a special moment, but the real reward has been helping people overcome challenges, achieve their goals, and do what they love.

Whether you’re an athlete looking to optimize your performance or someone recovering from an injury, I’m here to help. Let’s work together to keep you moving, thriving, and doing what you love—on and off the field.

Here’s to many more years of helping athletes reach their potential!
